Robin Norton-Hale
Robin Norton-Hale is a multi-award-winning director and writer for theatre, opera and film, and the Artistic Director and CEO of English Touring Opera. Her productions for the company include The Coronation of Poppea, Judith Weir’s Blond Eckbert which opened at Snape Maltings as part of the Aldeburgh Festival, and then toured alongside a new companion piece Do not take my story for a fairytale the following Autumn.
She was the founding Artistic Director & Chief Executive of OperaUpClose, where her productions included the Olivier Award-winning production of La bohème, Carmen, La voix humaine and Maria Stuarda. Other opera productions include The Little Sweep/Let’s Make an Opera and La traviata for Malmö Opera and La bohème for Ravenna Festival.
Robin has directed new writing for the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and Chester’s Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, and Shakespeare for Southwark Playhouse. She has written new English translations for seven operas, while her writing for children includes two original librettos (Peace At Last and Tutankhamun’s Shoes), a play (The Mince Pie Mice) and a musical (Sammy & the Beanstalk). Her feature film adaptation of La bohème, produced by Finite Films, is currently in post-production.
