Phil Wilcox
Phil Wilcox is a uniquely versatile musician and portfolio career artist who enjoys a richly diverse musical life. He is a graduate of Leeds College of Music, a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, and appears regularly as a concert soloist, opera singer, and professional chorister throughout the UK.
Operatic roles include Gazella Lucrezia Borgia, Alcindoro La bohème and Russell the Tree How to Find Your Name for English Touring Opera, Sir Thomas Bertram Mansfield Park and Father Hansel and Gretel – a production in which Phil accompanied himself on the piano accordion for Waterperry Opera Festival, Prince Vyazemsky Ivan the Terrible for Grange Park Opera, Ataliba Alzira, Captain Eugene Onegin and cover Banquo Macbeth for Buxton International Festival, Krakamiche Le dernier sorcier for Gothic Opera, Gasparo Rita for Charing Cross Theatre, and Major General Stanley The Pirates of Penzance for productions by Merry Opera and Opera Holland Park Inspire in both the UK and Saudi Arabia.
Phil appears regularly as a concert soloist for works including Verdi Requiem, Messiah, Samson and Israel in Egypt (Handel), St Matthew, John and Luke Passions (Bach), Elijah (Mendelssohn), Stabat Mater (Dvořák), Songs of Milarepa (Glass), and Eternal Light: A Requiem (Goodall). He has also recently sung for the Royal Shakespeare Company in London and New York, Opera North, Tête à Tête, Northern Opera Group, Baroquestock, Oxford Lieder, Philharmonia Chorus and the BBC Singers.
Phil conducts several choirs in the City of London for Music in Offices and is Musical Director of East Grinstead Choral Society and Fleet Singers. He is the Learning and Participation Manager for Leeds Lieder, a role he takes great pride in and, as an animateur and performer in educational settings, he has recently worked with both English National Opera and The Royal Opera. In addition to his singing work, Phil is an active musician on the UK ceilidh scene, playing bass guitar and piano accordion.
