Scottish mezzo soprano Lauren Young was an inaugural Mascarade Opera Studio Artist in Florence, Italy. She is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s (RCS) Alexander Gibson Opera School.
Lauren is a Britten Pears Young Artist 2022/2023 and a recipient of an Independent Opera Fellowship. In 2020, she was the winner of the Clonter Opera Prize, Joaninha Trust Award. With her duo partner Jose Javier Ucendo, she was a finalist in the Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform 2020.
Recent engagements include covering the roles of Mrs Alexander Satyagraha and Rossweisse The Valkyrie with English National Opera, Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia (RCS Opera) and Witch Hansel and Gretel (Silent Opera/BYO) at Opera Holland Park. Most recently she sang the role of Tisbe in Cinderella for English Touring Opera, having previously joined them as Matilda in Handel’s Ottone in their ‘Handelfest’ season. Future engagements include Daughter of Akhnaten in Philip Glass’ Akhnaten with English National Opera.
