Lauren Young

Scottish mezzo soprano Lauren Young was an inaugural Mascarade Opera Studio Artist in Florence, Italy. She is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s (RCS) Alexander Gibson Opera School.

Lauren is a Britten Pears Young Artist 2022/2023 and a recipient of an Independent Opera Fellowship. In 2020, she was the winner of the Clonter Opera Prize, Joaninha Trust Award, and was runner up in the Ye Cronies Award at the RCS in 2019 and 2020. With her duo partner Jose Javier Ucendo, she was a finalist in the Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform 2020.

Recent engagements include covering the roles of Mrs Alexander Satyagraha and Rossweisse The Valkyrie with English National Opera, opera scenes at Teatro La Fenice, singing Charlotte Werther and Fillipyevna Eugene Onegin, Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia (RCS Opera) and Witch Hansel and Gretel (Silent Opera/BYO) at Opera Holland Park. Lauren made her Wigmore Hall debut in October 2020 as part of the Independent Opera Scholar’s Recital. Future engagements include Daughter of Akhnaten in Philip Glass’ Akhnaten in English National Opera’s 2022/2023 season.
