Ian trained as a director at the National Theatre Studio, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and École Philippe Gaulier.

He recently created online puppet adaptations of Jon Klassen’s I Want My Hat Back, This Is Not my Hat and We Found a Hat for Little Angel Theatre. Reviewed as “pure joy” by The Guardian and “a shining example of the resourcefulness of artists and performers in these difficult times” in Metro.

Recent directing credits include: Medusa (Nuffield Southampton Theatres); Othello (Unicorn Theatre, London); Phoenix and Turtle (Little Angel Theatre); The Ingenious Gentleman: Don Quixote (Jacksons Lane) which won The Stage Award and a Vaults Festival Award.
