ritish baritone George von Bergen’s charismatic stage presence and powerful, mellifluous lyric baritone have earned him renown in Europe over the last three years. His numerous successes in recent seasons include Enrico Lucia di Lammermoor (Danish National Opera); the title role of Ambroise Thomas’ Hamlet (Croatian National Theatre new production); Ned Keene Peter Grimes (La Scala new production by Richard Jones); Marcello La bohème, Sharpless Madama Butterfly and Zurga Les pêcheurs de perles (all ENO); and Count Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro, Ostasio Francesca da Rimini, Ford Falstaff and Belcore L’elisir d’amore (all OHP). This season he will reprise the role of Sharpless at ENO.
