Anna Pool
Anna Pool is a composer, theatre director and performer. She works in the UK and internationally across theatre, folk music and opera.
Composing for theatre includes A Christmas Carol (The Barn, Cirencester), More…Ghost Stories by Candlelight (HighTide/Shakespeare’s Globe), Return of the Unknown (Marlowe Theatre), Medieval Miracles and Little Red (Eastern Angles/Theatre Porto).
Anna leads singing and songwriting projects which connect people to the places they live. These include We Are But Shadows (Spitalfields Festival), Shopping List (Tower Hamlets Big Sing), Hullaballoo (HandPicked Productions) and multiple singing workshops from Wigmore Hall to Hartlepool Folk Festival to the Barbican.
As a founding member of genre-bending folk quartet Wise Woman, Anna’s songs have been heard far and wide, from Radio 3 to Aldeburgh Festival to Celtic Connections. Currently, they are working with BalletFolk and bestselling author Sharon Blackie to bring Foxfire & Tales of Shapeshifting Women to the stage, supported by Wild Rumpus.
As a director, work includes Acis and Galatea, The Runaway Royal (Opera North), These Wondering Stones (Barbican), SCRAWW (Hall for Cornwall) and Dust Child (English Touring Opera). Her production of Kurt Weill’s Lady in the Dark (Opera Zuid) won Place de l’Opera’s Opera of the Year 2022 in the Netherlands.
