Interested in playing in an opera orchestra and accompanying English Touring Opera’s award-winning productions around the country?
English Touring Opera is looking to audition talented orchestral musicians with an interest in opera and theatre work to join our pool of freelance players.
Auditions will be held in London on Monday 19th July 2021.
Successful applicants will be added to our pool of freelance performers which the company may call upon for upcoming seasons.
Please note that being selected for the pool does not guarantee any offer of work.
Please submit all applications by 10am on Monday 5 July.
How to apply:
Interested applicants should apply via our online form which can be found HERE and upload their CV.
If selected for audition, players will be asked to play a short piece (5-6 mins) of their own choice, with or without accompaniment and will be sent some orchestral excerpts to prepare.
Please note that an accompanist will not be provided but players are welcome to bring their own accompanist if they so wish.
Players that are already known by English Touring Opera do not need to apply as they will automatically be included in the pool of freelance players.
English Touring Opera is an Equal Opportunities Employer. Three years ago the company set itself some ambitions in the fields of equality, diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. We have worked hard to ensure that we provide a welcoming and accessible environment for all.
Consequently, we actively encourage applications from all backgrounds and are particularly interested in hearing from performers from ethnically diverse performers and also socioeconomic backgrounds who are currently under represented in our sector.
The ETO orchestra is made up of the leading freelance musicians in the country. The orchestra can vary in size, depending on the repertoire, and can range from a chamber group of 8 right up to standard opera size of 25!
For the majority of our performances, the orchestra performs in the theatre pits, sometimes in front of or underneath the stages in our touring venues. No venue is the same, so we have to be flexible and adapt our layout.
Our ‘partner orchestra’ The Old Street Band is made up of freelance period instrument players who perform on original instruments (or exact replicas) from the time that the music was written.
Prospective musicians are encouraged to send in their CVs to Gemma Morsley, Artistic Administrator.
