BECOME A PART OF ENGLISH TOURING OPERA

It’s an exciting time to be joining English Touring Opera.  Over the past few years ETO has staged more new productions per year; diversified our repertoire; and have extended our new approach to outreach.

English Touring Opera
Chair of Board of Trustees

English Touring Opera is seeking a new Chair of its Board of Trustees, which is legally also its board of directors, to replace Richard Lyttelton who has decided to retire after seven years as Chair. The company has as its objectives to present and promote vibrant, innovative and high quality opera, music and theatre to existing and new audiences and venues in communities throughout England and the encouragement of the arts more generally. It seeks to stimulate new access, understanding and appreciation of the genre of opera, whilst promoting the development of the highest performance standards and enlivening career development opportunities for our artists. It will have operated successfully as a touring company for 30 years by the end of 2009, touring each year to a large number of venues around England, as well as occasional visits to theatres in Scotland, the Channel Islands and overseas, and with generous support from the Arts Council of England, as well as a range of foundations, charities corporate and individual sponsors and supporters.

The Chair will lead the Board, working with the General Director, James Conway, and his team, to ensure that English Touring Opera continues to grow, building on its outstanding artistic record of recent years, and maintaining its sound financial position. He or she will have a passion for opera and for the company’s objectives, be willing to visit the company on tour from time to time, an interest in the company’s educational outreach work, and a willingness and enthusiasm to be involved with the company’s development team in raising funds to support its repertoire and educational outreach.
The Chair serves in a voluntary capacity, and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong networking and communication skills, as well as experience of leading an organisation regionally or nationally.
Prospective candidates should contact:-
