The Siege of Calais

The Siege of Calais

In spring 2013, English Touring Opera will present a new production of Donizetti’s rarely performed opera The Siege of Calais (L’assedio di Calais), directed by James Conway. The opera tells the story of the Burghers of Calais, six citizens who offered their lives to Edward III so that the rest of the city may live. Donizetti’s opera explores themes of citizenship and what it means to be part of a community.

To support this new production, we are looking for our own Burghers – a small group of forward-thinking people who would like to become more involved with English Touring Opera, and who are prepared to make a financial contribution to ensure that communities across the UK continue to receive high quality performances of interesting and unusual repertoire.

As a Syndicate Supporter you will be offered exclusive access to the production process, following the opera from initial designs to opening night. There will also be opportunities to meet the creative team behind the production and to learn more about the opera with like-minded people.

To join the Burghers Syndicate we are asking for donations of £1,000 and above. We are also seeking a Saint Pierre figure to take a leading role and be the production’s principal supporter. We are looking for generous donations of £5,000 and above to join the Saint Pierre Syndicate.

A list of benefits for the Burghers and Saint Pierre Syndicates are provided on the next tab, and a membership form can be downloaded from the menu on the left.

Should you have any questions about Production Syndicates, please contact David Burgess on 020 7833 2555 or david.burgess@englishtouringopera.org.uk

We look forward to welcoming you into our community of Syndicate Supporters.
