Turtle Song in Wolverhampton and Buckinghamshire this autumn.

Turtle Song is our well-known project for people living with dementia, and has run successfully all over the country for the past 10 years. There are two new projects and partnerships this autumn.

We are delighted to be working alongside the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust this autumn, as well as with our regular partners Turtle Key Arts. Over the course of 10 weeks we will make a new song cycle, created and performed by adults with all forms of dementia, along with their partners and carers. We are collaborating also with music students from Wolverhampton University. The sessions at West Park Hospital will lead to a performance at The Arena Theatre on December 13th.

The group will meet weekly over a ten week period between October and December. The aims are to enjoy singing together, to help write some songs, to record the songs on CD and DVD as well as perform, and to have an experience that is both fun and inspiring. All the ideas for the songs will come from the participants, and the final piece will be performed live to friends and family at the end of the ten weeks. The sessions will be led by Heather Wastie and Tim Yealland.

A similar project is happening for the first time this autumn in Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, led by Jon Petter and Carolyn Von Stumm. This is an ETO collaboration with the Royal College of Music and Turtle Key Arts, in partnership with Waddesdon Manor and Tring Park School for the Performing Arts.

The sessions run on Monday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm at Waddesdon Manor, Aylesbury, Bucks HP18 0JH

rv.“Turtle Song was a musical performance of pure wonder and fun, after weeks of collaboration, rehearsals, writingmusic, lyricising, tea drinking and luxury biscuit scoffing for people of varying ages all of whom suffer from dementia. It was beautiful, fun and enlivening. I was so touched by the effort and love that the organisers /
founders of this event and the music students put into this performance.”
