ETO returns to Marlwood School in Gloucestershire for a week long residency. 75 students from the secondary school are joined by 15 from New Siblands Special School, all of whom are helping to create and will perform in a new opera called The Almondsbury Bells. The piece celebrates the restoration of the set of bells in the local church of St Mary’s.

The relationship between ETO and these schools is a special one, and we have returned many times since our first opera Severn Stories in 2011. A technical and design team from the school is led by designer Jude Munden, the band is led by composer Russell Hepplewhite, and a percussion group is led by young percussionist Tom Highnam. Tim Yealland directs. All the material in the opera is devised with the students.
