Patience, a light opera, by Gilbert and Sullivan is the duo’s extremely witty, infrequently performed little masterpiece about the Aesthetic Movement of the 1880s, with willowy poets, sighing maidens, hearty milkmaids and burly officers galore. Every tune is whistleable, every word worth hearing, and the humour is as fresh as it was at the first performance.

Sung in English.
Running time: approx. 2 hours and 20 minutes (inc. interval)

Patience showcases ETO at its very best. For its quality and its ubiquity it is not to be missed. Do yourself a favour and don’t.

WhatsOnStage ★★★★

There’s a strong set of principal performances in a fine show, with Bradley Travis an effusive joy and Ross Ramgobin hinting at star potential.

…spot-on performance comes from Lauren Zolezzi

The Telegraph

The star of the show, as G&S intended, is Lauren Zolezzi’s Patience, pert and winsome but with a steely streak that wins the day.

Your Comments

  1. I have been following Gilbert and Sullivan for over 50 years. A really good production of any of the operas is hard to find these days. ETO,s Patience is an exception. This was pure magic, and at last one of the least performed savoy operas has risen to the cause. Congratulations ETO hope G and S is permanently in you repetoire....Tony Lancaster
