Buzz on the Moon

A new opera about moon myths

The astronaut Buzz Aldrin drops in out of the blue on Holy Trinity and St Silas School to tell the children about the famous Apollo 11 moon landing. This sparks their imagination and they start to tell him amazing tales and myths about how Hou Yi chased Chang’e to the moon, where she found a rabbit to keep her company; about the moon god Anningan; how Soma is the elixir of the moon…

Following Sem’ye and last year’s The Ghost of Doughty Street, ETO returns to Holy Trinity and St Silas School for the fifth year running. All the children in the school contribute to writing the lyrics and music of the songs, as well as to the story and the design. Also collaborating with us on the project are student musicians from the Royal Academy of Music.

If you would be interested in having a creative residency such as this at your school please get in touch with Jo Corrigan (Learning & Participation Producer) at jo.corrigan@englishtouringopera.org.uk or on 020 7833 2555.
