According to Handel

It is the 11th January 1713, the day after the first performance of Handel’s masterpiece, the opera Teseo – or Theseus. The manager of the theatre has run off with the takings of the previous night, the cast is unpaid and disgruntled, and the composer needs to make urgent amendments to ensure the continuing success of his opera.

Lasting just over an hour, this workshop is set on this particular day and is performed in character. Featuring arias and instrumental music from Teseo, it is fully interactive and includes elements of composition. As well as introducing this amazing music, the session looks also at the world of Handel the composer, and the pressures on the working artist. The workshop is suitable for students of any skill aged 12 to 17.

The workshop accompanies ETO’s Handelfest, which features 5 fully staged productions. Special ticket prices are available for students and accompanying teachers, for performances of either Teseo or another Handel opera Tolomeo.
