Meet the Buxton fairies

13th April 2010

We continue to introduce you to the children who will sing in your local production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Next up are the pupils from Burbage Primary School in Buxton, who will play the fairies in Buxton Opera House this Saturday. The teachers have taken the all-embracing approach of involving every child who auditioned in the rehearsals, so that everyone can benefit from the experience of preparing Britten’s music to a professional standard. These children will then use what they have learnt to perform in a school opera later in the year.

One child in year 4 remarks, “Even though I’m an understudy I really feel like a fairy. I love singing high and low and learning different songs. It has been a wonderful experience.” Another says, “I really enjoyed the harmonies because they are hard. It is fun.” And to one year 3 pupil, “The practice is worth it, exciting, interesting, and a wonderful opportunity to be famous”.

Book your ticket for Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Buxton Opera House, this Saturday 17 April, 7.30pm.
