In remembrance of Sally Silver

29th November 2018

We heard the sad news of the death on Tuesday 27 November of soprano Sally Silver.

Sally was an extremely gifted lyric soprano; her voice was rich and flexible, and she was a fine musician and colleague. Her most recent appearance with ETO was in the leading role of Eleonora in The Wild Man of the West Indies (Donizetti).

Sally was also a strong and loyal supporter of ETO. Unusually, she attended plenty of performances in which she was not singing, and she was generous in her praise for other artists. She understood the company; her encouraging, well-chosen words after a performance meant a lot to any of us.

Sally’s husband Jeremy Silver conducted a number of striking productions for English Touring Opera in recent years. Our hearts go out to Jeremy and to Charlotte, their daughter.
