Fantastic Mr Fox: composer meets conductor

15th November 2010

Here are some photos of an early meeting between composer Tobias Picker and conductor Timothy Carey in the planning stages of Fantastic Mr Fox. The big score on the table is a brand new 15-instrument orchestration of the opera, which you can see for the first time this Spring.

Of course, we’re very excited about a musical setting of Roald Dahl’s famous children’s book – and it will serve as an excellent introduction to opera – but we should point out that Picker’s music is brilliantly engaging for an adult audience as well. The Independent on Sunday describes it as, “a moreish, citrusy cocktail of Britten, Poulenc, foxtrots and klezmer”.

See our Tour Dates page to find out when you can hear this sparkling new orchestration of a children’s classic.
