ETO to perform at Shaldon Festival

20th May 2011

English Touring Opera is delighted to be part of this year’s Shaldon Festival with a recital of arias by Puccini and a brand new children’s opera created with children from Shaldon Primary School and Inverteign School.

Tenor Charne Rochford, soprano Julie Unwin and baritone Simon Thorpe from the cast of ETO’s spring production of Puccini’s Il tabarro will present an evening of classic Puccini’s arias, including duets and trios from La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Tosca and a condensed version of Il tabarro itself.

The team from English Touring Opera will also be working with children from around Shaldon to create Beyond the Door of the Den, a brand new opera about the joys and fears of forest life. The children will explore the comforts of the den and the terrors that lie outside, writing words and music and finally performing before an invited audience in the new school hall in Shaldon Primary School.

They will be assisted by composer Russell Hepplewhite, director Bernadette Iglich, and local baritone Nicholas Merryweather, who plays the title role in ETO’s current production of Fantastic Mr Fox.

Puccini recital: Thursday 16 June 2011, 7.30pm
Beyond the Door of the Den: Thursday 16 June 2011, 4.00pm
