Help fill ETO's stocking this Christmas

Play Santa and help fill ETO’s stocking this Christmas

Christmas Stockings are traditionally filled with small gifts – often useful items such as stationery, confectionery, toiletries or toys. Alternatively, naughty boys and girls would wake on Christmas Day to find Santa had left them a lump of coal.

ETO have written their own letter to Santa, featuring variations on traditional Stocking Fillers which are essential for a touring company.

If you have enjoyed ETO’s work this year, please consider giving a small gift this Christmas to help us continue bringing high quality opera to you in the New Year. To donate an item to ETO’s stocking, click on the picture, or text the appropriate code to 70300.

£1 = Batteries

Batteries Not Included
As anybody will tell you, it is important to have a stash of batteries ready for Christmas morning. On tour, ETO relies on batteries for a number of things, including many of the tools used by the crew, the torches which ensure singers can see backstage and the radio system which enables our stage management and technical teams to communicate during the performance.

£3 = A Roll of Electrical Tape

Some Assembly Required
Those dreaded words strike fear in the hearts of parents on 25 December. Yet, during the tour our crew work around the clock to assemble our sets in venues across the country. This includes fitting approximately 2,400 metres of cable for every show, all of which must be safely held in place to avoid any accidents.

£5 = Food and Drink for the Green Room

Bring us some Figgy Pudding
As you might have gathered from our Production Manager’s blog, touring can be thirsty work. A touring company marches on its stomach so we have to keep the Green Room well stocked. Whilst Santa has his milk and mince pie (not forgetting the carrot for Rudolph), the ETO team functions best with tea, coffee, bottles of water, biscuits and fruit.

£10 = Stage Make-up

Apply Deep and Crisp and Even
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without Rudolph’s red nose, or Santa’s rosy cheeks. Similarly, our productions use a range of make-up techniques to create the characters you see on stage. Whether used to drastically change someone’s appearance, such as Death and Harlequin in The Emperor of Atlantis, or more subtly applied, make-up is a vital part of our tour kitbag.

£20 = A Lump of Coal!!

Driving Home for Christmas
OK, so a real lump of coal wouldn’t be much use nowadays but, in the absence of flying reindeer, a touring company does require petrol. Each tour, our two lorries and one transit van cover over 5,000 miles, bringing high quality opera to towns and cities across the UK.

Of course, there is space under the ETO Tree for gifts of all shapes and sizes. By clicking on the pictures above you can make an online donation of any amount.
