Producing the Handelfest does not leave open any ‘windows’ for doubt. The plan is good, and complex; the artists are terrific; the operas are rich: if this is week 3, there are 3 of them in preparation, and two others on hold. Tolomeo and Teso reached the stage of the first runs: the shape is there, the narrative is clear, and musically the destinations are in sight. Now Flavio is being confected, a perfect comedy with a serious plot at the centre that must retain credibility.
