This must be week 5. Teseo comes back into rehearsal Monday. I think our wonderful Medea, Claire Ormshaw comes back from Minnesota on Sunday; I hope she sleeps on the plane!
Runs of Ariodante in the morning and Alcina in the afternoon last Saturday. An embarrassment of riches! I was at and Alcina run earlier in the week, and took off the afternoon for some other jobs. It is looking and sounding splendid – sensuous, detailed, alluring. In a way it has to recreate itself in the mind of the watcher/ listener. So much of what is at the heart is suggested, like a sort of invitation. It’s hard work for the singers, sustaining an illusory world and a revealed world on stage. Bernadette Iglich has been very faithful to the original production, and has realised it beautifully: the physical language is strange and wonderful.
Looking forward to seeing how teseo will turn out.
