Fourth day of Tolomeo rehearsal. Each scene is so taut and clear! Having an interesting time getting the artists to lose their ideas about heroism: as soon as you think your character is heroic, you lose any chance of making them complex! Our Tolomeo is the poorest beggar, living under a pier at the end of the sea – unwilling to go further on land, and ever contemplating that great grave, the sea. Had some irresponsible fun shocking people by making them ponder the prologue printed in Handel’s programme, all about that vicious mother, Cleopatra. Great for context, though.
